WORLD OF MEESHCRAFT LOADS; SIX HEROES CHOOSE SIDE QUESTS OVER THE MAIN ONE
From the Sketchbook: the title screen of a game that was never released and has somehow been played for thirty years.
Arts Critic, The Spoiler Alert
The Gallery's guest piece this week, from the Sketchbook, is World of MeeshCraft: six armoured heroes in a row, each in a panel of fire, frost or light, above a familiar-looking logo and the subtitle "The Quest for the October Avatar."
Nerd Panel chair Esther Egg confirms it is the title screen of a game that does not exist, "which has never stopped anyone." Chet Kode has already filed patch notes: "Known issue: players who start the main quest wander off at the first message board. Status: working as intended."
Visitors from the front page, where a man majors in Accounting and ends up in web development anyway, say the six heroes look like six save files. "Accounting," said one, pointing. "One semester of computers. Political Science. The internship. And that one heard 'You got mail' in 1995." Curators decline to confirm which panel is which. "That's the side quest," said a docent.
The October Avatar itself has not been found, and the Gallery is in no hurry. Kahn Sole of the Retro Desk notes that the princess was famously in another castle, and that this never once ruined the game.
